The 575M Maranello was a total success. But still innovation can still be done on it. Plus, Ferrari never stops in advancing its technology. That is why, after three years, they had launched a new version of the 575M Maranello, the 575M Superamerica which is actually a limited edition.
As with the Maranello, the Superamerica’s heart is a front mid-mounted V12 engine. But of course innovations were made so the maximum power is now up to 540 hp still at 7250 rpm and maximum torque the same as the Maranello. It still has four valves per cylinder with twin overhead camshafts per bank and dry sump lubrication system. But the Bosch Motronic ME7 was used as its electronic static ignition/fuel injection system.
Superamerica is still made of tubular steel but designed as a Spider rather than a Coupé. Front and rear suspensions are the same. Manual or the electro-hydraulic F1 6-speed plus reverse transmissions is up to the buyer. Rack and pinion steering are still used.
Superamerica though is a little heavier than the Maranello. It has a kerb weight of 1790 kg, 60 kg more than the Maranello. It will still take you 4.25 seconds with a manual gearbox and 4.20 seconds with an f1 gearbox to a speed of 100 km/h from zero. And top speed is now down to 320 km/h.
But it has a whole new external concept. So with this supercar you can enjoy your driving with the air pressing onto your face and making you feel more relaxed and care free.
Even if it is 5 less than the Maranello on the top speed it still is the fastest convertible berlinetta in its time.
Designed by Pininfarina, it portrays a strikingly balanced proportion which is distinctive for a V12-engined berlinetta putting on the skillfully designed one of a kind Revocromico roof. The whole roof structure is pretty much very functional. It actually serves together with the two side buttresses as a roll-over protection. It blends in naturally with the car’s lines with the help of the two side buttresses which were primarily based from some of Ferrari’s classic models.
This exclusive Fioravanti-patented rotating roof is actually one of the major features of this supercar. It is labeled as the Revocromico roof to greatly emphasize the wonderful combination of its rearward rotation movement and the applied electrochromic technology.
Superameirca is pretty much dramatic. To highlight its muscular however sensual curves, its rear part is branded with a carbon-fibre boot featuring Ferrari’s shield in relief.
It is further enhanced by the company’s partnership with Bridgestone to provide a more safe and comfortable driving with its Bridgestone Potenza RE050 tyres.
Being completely high-class on the outside, Pininfarina never forget to balance it with the luxuriousness of its interior. It is filled with carefully handcrafted leather trim. The roof switches have a very exquisite carbon-fibre detailing. It also gives the driver a great driving pleasure with the car’s radio surround and instrument display.
Its interior is also fully heightened with more light coming in through the large glass roof yet not affecting the on board comfort or even the space. Comfort is even improved with its special perforated leather trimmed seats. There is also enough space for your luggage and stuffs with the on-board storage space made possible by the storage compartment itself and the specially designed closed cabinet behind the seats.
More or less, this car is just a superb buy as the Maranello is. Buying the 575M Superameica won’t be a waste of money. They got more or less different features although one is derived from the other and both cars had been designed for different purposes and different times. Further differentiation of both cars isn’t needed for either way, they are all remarkable models.
